TPF COVID-19 COMMUNITY RELIEF FUND
As the global novel coronavirus outbreak continues to rapidly evolve and expand, it tests our collective strength. Millions are on lockdown and businesses are closing. Our communities both in the US and in Turkey are wondering what the long-term impact of the illness will be on their communities and their livelihoods. Paying rent and utilities, getting food and finding basics is tougher than ever before. Doctors, nurses and other front-line medical workers across the globe are confronting a dire shortage of masks, surgical gowns and eye gear to protect them from the virus.
In response to the outbreak, Turkish Philanthropy Funds has launched the TPF COVID-19 Community Relief Fund to support containment, response and recovery activities for those affected and for the responders.
THE FUND AND THE NEEDS
Turkish Philanthropy Funds steps up whenever our communities need us. TPF COVID-19 Community Relief Fund will focus on supporting nonprofit organizations working directly to respond to the pandemic among the most vulnerable populations and to hospitals to provide the much-needed gear and equipment to help build their capacity for response.
TPF is working closely with our grantee partners on the ground in Turkey and social service organizations in the US to follow both current and emergent needs and identify projects to support, including:
- Supporting healthcare workers:The funds will support capital purchases of masks, gowns, gloves and other essential personal protective equipment. These items help prevent the infection of essential medical staff who are at increased risk because of their close contact with people who may be infected.
- Supporting quarantined individuals: The use of quarantines is crucial in helping control the spread of any infectious disease, including COVID-19. However, this means individuals are unable to go to work, go shopping for necessities, or even see their families in some cases. We will support organizations providing support to quarantined individuals.
- Serving vulnerable populations: We will provide support to organizations supporting vulnerable populations including low-income children and families, hourly wage earners, workers in the gig economy, older adults, people with disabilities and other communities vulnerable to the physical health, mental health and economic impacts of the pandemic to provide food, shelter and other basic needs. We will especially support organizations with track record with administering emergency cash grants to individuals and families.
TPF will use contributions to the Fund to address any one of these issues, which will allow TPF to be adaptive in our support. The global nature of this outbreak may result in TPF using COVID-19 community relief fund both in the U.S. and in Turkey. The fund will not provide support directly to individuals.
If you are a corporation who would like to support the fund, please reach out to Senay Ataselim-Yilmaz at [email protected].
If you have a donor-advised fund at TPF, you can recommend a grant from your fund to the COVID-19 community relief fund or an organization of your choice in the US or in Turkey working to respond to needs created by COVID-19. Please visit our online portal here.
TPF is committed to standing with our communities and supporting those impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Together, we will overcome this pandemic by making sure the most vulnerable among us are protected.
REPORTING AND MONITORING
Turkish Philanthropy Funds is responsible for the careful stewardship of our donors’ dollars. Organizations receiving funding will provide one brief report to TPF at the end of the funding period describing how the funds were used and impact achieved. TPF will also check-in periodically through e-mail and/or phone calls throughout the grant cycle to establish a streamlined reporting process.

At this point, we are only accepting proposals from TPF partners in Turkey. We ask organizations to complete and return applications as soon as possible. We will then make recommendations to TPF’s Board of Directors, which has oversight of all grantmaking.
We will continue to do our needs assessments to determine nonprofit organizations other than TPF partners both in Turkey and in the US. Please email [email protected] if you’d like to be considered.
