Pinar Gultekin, who was only 27 years old, was yet another victim of violence against women in Turkey. Once again, we’re reminded that we need to address the power imbalances that limit opportunities for girls and women to live their lives to the fullest.
Women in many cases are not permitted access to many resources men are given. Tackling violence against women requires a change in this understanding of the society of “what a woman can or cannot do.” As TPF, our strategy around gender equality focuses on addressing socially determined gender inequalities, which are deeply rooted in attitudes, institutions, and market forces in our society. We recognize that achieving results entails closing the gender gaps in education, economic opportunities, and enhancing women’s voice – the ability to be heard and to make choices about their own lives. And, all of these efforts require engaging men and boys.
At TPF, we are proud to build a movement for equality by lifting up the voices of the women and girls who are already leading the way in their communities to change the societal imbalances and working with men who are leaning in for equality.
As TPF, we are committed.
We work to challenge conscious and unconscious bias.
We call for gender-balanced leadership.
We help women and girls achieve their ambitions.
And, we challenge to create inclusive cultures.
We believe that when we all—activists, local leaders, and supporters like you—raise our voices together, we are impossible to ignore.
So, today we invite you to do what you can – be it donating to TPF’s Gender Equality Fund or sharing our posts on your social media accounts to truly make a positive difference for women because a more equal world and a world with no violence against women will be a better world.
Thank you for your continued support! Together we continue to make a difference.
