Young Photographers Award
Each year, TPF funds a scholarship with American Turkish Society called the Young Photographer’s Award. This award was founded by Haluk Soykan in hopes to support undergraduate photography majors in Turkey. Students are given the opportunity to choose any theme for their submission. This year 18 artists from 10 universities applied for the scholarship.
It was interesting, however, to find that throughout all the various themes, the three winners had a similarity in their photos. The judges that selected the winning pictures stated “One of the threads that runs through much of the work is an underlying feeling of melancholy
and loss in the face of the rapid modernization and change taking place in Turkey today.” See a sample collection of the top three winners below:
