Reflection dominates this time of year. As the days on the calendar countdown to a New Year, we all seem to find ourselves looking back at the past year and thinking about the one ahead asking such questions as: What have we achieved? Where do we want to go?
As our world moves faster than ever, these questions become even more important. Responding to challenges such as the one we’ve seen in recent weeks through Hurricane Sandy shows that we can no longer depend on traditional methods. Today’s challenges require quick decisions, immediate solutions and reliable resources. That’s what we’ve seen in the past few weeks. Among the first to respond to Sandy, and to last year’s earthquake in Turkey’s Southeastern city Van were ordinary people.
Community has always been at the heart of Turkish Philanthropy Funds. Though we are a philanthropic organization focused on raising funds for various projects, our priority is not wealth. Money alone does not change or improve lives. True transformation happens when understanding comes together to solve society’s problems. That’s what we’ve strived for at TPF. And that’s what we’ve focused this year’s annual report on. Our theme is community philanthropy. In it are stories, testimonies and experiences of those within the TPF community working to have a positive impact in Turkey. We hope it inspires you as we head into a New Year. And we hope you’ll share your inspirations with us.
