Turkiye continues to face challenges with academic and socioeconomic disparities in education. Recent Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) results show that Turkiye ranks near the bottom among OECD countries in both academic and social inclusivity. A significant portion of students are underperforming in key areas – 38.6% in mathematics, 29.3% in reading, and 24.7% in science -highlighting the urgent need to strengthen foundational skills and address child poverty to ensure equal opportunities for all students.

At this month’s Voices of Partners (VOP) session, we will delve deeper into the PISA report findings and explore these critical issues with our partners Eğitim Reformu Girişimi (ERG), Çağdaş Yaşamı Destekleme Derneği (ÇYDD) and Köy Okulları Değişim Ağı (KODA). Our focus will be on how we can support educational equality —ranging from limited access to quality STEM education in rural areas to the school enrollment gap for girls.
