Passing the Torch: A Story of Opening Doors for Others

When Aykut arrived in San Francisco, he did not have a business plan or a clear roadmap for the future. Like many who leave home in search of opportunity, he arrived with ambition, curiosity, and the determination to build a better life, even though he did not yet know what shape that journey would take.

The early years were filled with uncertainty. He worked hard, explored different paths, and slowly began to understand where his talents and passions could lead him. Along the way, he learned that success depends on more than hard work alone. It also requires people who are willing to believe in you, offer guidance, make introductions, and open doors. While a handful of people did just that, he never forgot how difficult it was to find that support.

Over time, Aykut discovered an opportunity in the growing mobile technology sector and founded an app growth agency that helps mobile businesses scale. What began as an idea eventually grew into a company valued at more than $100 million within five years.

That experience shaped how Aykut thinks about success and philanthropy. For him, achievement is not measured only by what you build, but by how many people you help build after you. When he began thinking about how he wanted to give back to the community he remains deeply connected to in Türkiye, he found a partner in Turkish Philanthropy Funds.

Rather than supporting a single project, Aykut chose to invest in TPF's endowment, strengthening the Foundation's ability to create opportunities for generations to come. He believes that the most meaningful philanthropy is not only about solving today's challenges but also about ensuring that future generations have the support they need to pursue their own ambitions.

His connection to TPF is also deeply personal. He believes many of TPF founders’ stories echoed his own: arriving in the United States with modest beginnings, building a successful career, and choosing to create opportunities for others.

For Aykut, this is what philanthropy means: passing the torch. He believes that every opportunity he received carries with it a responsibility to create opportunities for someone else. Whether supporting students, entrepreneurs, artists, or chefs, his goal is always the same: to help talented, driven people find the encouragement, resources, and connections that can change the course of their lives.

His commitment extends well beyond financial support. As a member of the TPF Founders Society, a supporter of the TPF Gala, a speaker at the TPF Summit, and an active member of the TPF community, he continues to share his experiences with others who are just beginning their own journeys. For him, mentorship, relationships, and belief in another person's potential are among the greatest gifts one can offer.

Looking back, Aykut knows how much a single opportunity can change a life. Today, his greatest accomplishment is helping create those opportunities for others.
