Everything in my life has changed for the better – first and foremost, this scholarship has given me the vision to aim beyond my imagination. I have become more cultured, making friends from all walks of life and different countries. Lastly, I have found a role model, Sena Eken-Schieber, a woman economist who inspires me to always push myself.

Scholarships available for studying Graduate Level Economics in the United States
We are proud to announce the fourth year of the Sena Eken Schieber Economics Award given in memory of Sena Eken Schieber to continue her legacy as a pioneering international civil servant, Turkish Government official, and economist. The Award has supported six young women already at Duke University, Arizona State University, Cornell University, George Washington University and the University of Wisconsin. George Schieber established the award at TPF after losing his wife, Sena in 2014. The Sena Eken Schieber Economics Award provides scholarships to women in financial need from Turkey who are accepted to accredited graduate Economics programs in the United States. Several awards are made annually to cover tuition and/or living expenses.
The award was established to give opportunities to young women from Turkey to have impactful careers like Sena, who was a senior executive at the IMF and an Advisor to the Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey. “Sena always appreciated how her education empowered her. We wanted to enable the current generation of Turkish women to have the same opportunities. Turkey ranks 130 out of 148 countries on the 2018 World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Index. This scholarship provides Turkish women with the opportunity to help correct this imbalance and reach their full potential while contributing to a more equitable and better world in this important male-dominated profession,” notes George Schieber.
We are looking for dedicated and motivated women to follow in Sena’s footsteps. If you think that you, or someone you know, qualifies for this opportunity, apply now or share this message!
Applications will be accepted through Monday, March 2, 2020 by 5 PM EST. Scholarship recipients will be announced later in the Spring of 2020.
