What Single Mothers Can Teach Philanthropy About Funding Differently

A single mother trying to build greater economic security rarely faces one barrier at a time. Returning to work after years of caregiving may need updated digital skills, and help navigating a job market that has changed while she was away. But training alone may not be enough if she cannot access childcare. These challenges are interconnected in people's lives. Philanthropy, however, often funds them separately.

The Hardest Part of Disaster Philanthropy May Be Knowing How to Leave

This week, I joined a table discussion at the Clinton Global Initiative titled “Disaster Response and Beyond: How Humanitarian Actors Can Drive Long-term Recovery and Resilience.” Led by GlobalGiving, and moderated by Taylor Dudley from Center for Disaster Philanthropy, the conversation focused on a challenge that has become increasingly important across humanitarian and philanthropic work: how to bridge the gap between immediate disaster response and the much longer process of recovery.
