August 15, 2008 Turkish Philanthropic Fund (TPF) and Sabanci Foundation are collaborating to support “United Nations Joint Program on Promoting and Protecting the Human Rights of Women and Girls,” through Sabanci Foundation Grant Program, which has been supporting the Joint Program for the last 3 years. Through the Grant Program, TPF of New York will provide funding to support “Strengthening the Role of Women in the Workforce (Kasik Tutan Elden Para Tutan Ele)” project of Turkish Women Association of Trabzon(Turk Kadinlar Birligi Trabzon Subesi).

 

Project: “Kasik Tutan Elden Para Tutan Ele”

Aim: Strengthening the Role of Women in the Workforce Guarding women with financial stability to bring her the power to provide for her needs and contribute to her community.


Need: Only 3,839 out of 13,521 labor-force in Trabzon is women •  Women are great cooks in Trabzon. Yet they don’t have access to training, credit, tools and other inputs they need to get benefits of their traditional home-cooking.

Task: Translate women’s competence in local home cooking to commercial opportunities.

Timeline: October 2008 – April 2009

Project Outline:
Phase 1: 20 women will be trained by the instructors of Technical Education Institute and Vocational High School for Girls.Seminars held on:  Entrepreneurship • Legal rights • People and communication skills • Healthy eating habits • Sanitation • Team spirit •
Phase 2:Practical training in the sector. 
Phase 3:
Providing jobs or capital to start their own business for at least 50% of the trainees.
