Brief Description of Organization: Turkiye Egitim Vakfi was founded in 1967 under the leadership of Vehbi Koc to provide equal opportunities of education to the youth of Turkey. Since its founding, it has been a leader in facilitating access to education through scholarships, and schools and educational facilities they have built. Primary Purpose of the Project: To build a new Primary School in the Village of Çaykişla. Needs that will be addressed: On August 17, 1999 a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Sea of Marmara in Turkey devastating several surrounding towns, villages and cities including the village of Caykisla in Adapazari. A Primary School was hurriedly put together after the earthquake but was never properly rebuilt. The conditions were appalling - the temporary building had the smell of sewer throughout; classrooms sized for 24 students housed up to 45; the library consisted of merely forty books; a leaky roof; no lunch room, and a host of other health and environmental related hazards.
