Friends of Funds

Because TPF is committed to creating a community of philanthropists it has established a Friend of Funds to advise on philanthropic efforts. The Friend of Funds also enables Turkish universities and NGOs to create a cost-effective alternative to receiving tax-deductible gifts from U.S. donors and collect an unlimited number of donations.  (U.S. individuals cannot, under law, make tax deductible gifts directly to a foreign charity. They can only receive a tax benefit if they give to a U.S. 501(c)(3). All grants from TPF are tax deductible for the original U.S. donor because TPF is a U.S. public charity.)

It is a great way for Universities and NGOs to avoid the hassle of administering a separate charitable entity and reduce administration costs.

Through 'Friend of' Funds Turkish Universities and/or NGOs maintains a connection to donors. Currently, TPF has three Friends of Funds:

• Friends of Sabanci University (SU) Fund: Through this fund, you can help to increase SU's current scholarship pool so that more talented and needy students get a chance for higher education in Turkey.
• Friends of Toplum Gonulluleri Vakfi (TOG) Fund: Through this fund, you can be a partner of TOG in transforming young people of Turkey, be it through a scholarship, or social responsibility projects.
• Friends of Bogazici University (BU) Fund: Through this fund, you can support many projects of Bogazici University so that their students have better opportunies.

How to Start a "Friends of Fund"

'Friends of  Funds can be started by Universities/NGOs, friends of Universities/NGOs, or alumni of Universities.

• Apply for eligibility with TPF by completing "Grant Eligibility Application" with supporting information including financial statements, governing documents, and proof of in-country charitable registration.
• Once you are eligible to receive grants from TPF, complete the 'Friends of' Fund agreement, affidavit and fundraising plan  form, and return to TPF with your set up fee.
• Upon approval of TPF board, the fund can begin accepting donations immediately.
• TPF will provide you a letter of introduction  along with a gift form to distribute to donors.
