Brief Description of Organization:
Established in 1924 to protect and improve the rights of women that were gained with the republic. The organization has more than 70 branches all around Turkey. Trabzon branch was established in 1995, serving the women of Trabzon (not just in the city but also in nearby villages).

Primary Purpose of the Project:
The "Kasik Tutan Elden Para Tutan Ele" project aims to strengthen the role of women in the workforce and provide them with financial stability to bring them the power to contribute to their community. This project seeks to empower women and increase women employment rate in the region through cullinary training and entrepreneurship.
Needs that were addressed:
Income inequality: Unemployment rate in Trabzon has been increasing every year. Women in Trabzon are effected from it the most. Only 3,839 out of 13,521 in the workforce is women in Trabzon (28%). Acoording to the 2007 ISKUR statistics, culinary sector needs more workforce in Trabzon and women in the region already have the necessary cullinary skills to contirbute to this sector. A culinary training that combines traditional home-cooking style with professional service techniques is a need in the touristic city of Trabzon.

Core Project Activities:
Training of 20 women for 24 hours every week for 480 hours in total, half of which was an internship. In addition, women were trained on their legal rights, people skills and communication, healthy eating, hygiene, and teamwork.
Trainees who passed the course with a minimum of 70 received certification and received aidwhen applying for a job.

Outcomes:

100% of the trainees learned how to cook traditional local food
-
80% of the trainees received certification.

50% of trainees were placed in jobs, and 50% were encouraged to start their own business with microcredit and financing
- The project received great attention from local and national media outlets in Turkey.
- A Certificate Award Ceremony took place in order to celebrate the accomplishments of trainees.
- Trainees participated in social activities such as movie screenings and trips in addition to their cooking classes
