Brief Description of Organization:

Bolu Community Foundation was established by a group of 32 local business and civil society leaders with the technical support of TUSEV (Third Sector Foundation of Turkey), and aims to promote the well-being of Bolu by supporting critical projects put forth by non-profit organizations which address the social and economic development of the community.

Primary Purpose of the Project:

BCF seeks to build, overtime, a collection of endowed funds from a wide range of donors, including local citizens living in Bolu and elsewhere, businesses and international donors. As the first community foundation of Turkey to date, BCF aspires to promote the establishment of community foundations elsewhere in the country by setting an example for other regions and communities.

Needs that will be addressed:

The province of Bolu ranks 14th in terms of economical development among the 81 provinces in Turkey, and is a rapidly growing province with a dynamic private sector. Rapid economic growth comes hand in hand with high levels of immigration, environmental challenges and increasing demand for social services. In contrast to Bolu's vibrant private sector, the non-profit sector remains under-developed both in quantitative and qualitative terms.

Population Targeted: Residents of Bolu

Core Project Activities:

  • Build an endowment for the Bolu Community Foundation through fundraising efforts locally, nationally and internationally

Area-focus:  Civil Society and Community Empowerment
